The Lady’s Walk (2.2 miles)
The Lady’s Walk is on of two classic circular routes created by Thomas Johnes in his first years at Hafod (1780’s) and described be many early visitors. It takes in scenery that varies wildly in character, contrasting the relatively gentle landscape of open parkland with narrow wooded valleys and rushing streams.
The walk leaves the car park along the Pen-creigiau track (no vehicular access). It follows the ridge of Cefn Creigiau to arrive at a spectacular headland, where a short loop path leads to the best viewpoint. From here the walk descends to cross grazed fields, passing Hawthorn Cottage and the site of the mansion before approaching the river.
After following an estate drive for a short distance, the walk descends towards a riverside meadow. Here there is a choice between the Garden Walk- a narrow but fairly level woodland path that passes through the former Flower Garden- or the meadow path along the river. Both routes soon meet again close to a modern road bridge, before continuing alongside the river Ystwyth and the Perian Falls. From here the walk climbs, steeply in places, back up to the church and the car park.
It was a lovely day, i had a great time and would reccommend it to everyone!
